On my 38th birthday, I was the cofounder of a bootstrapped billion-dollar startup, married with two young children, and in the best physical and financial shape of my life. Two months later, I woke up in an Intensive Care Unit to a doctor telling me I had crushed my spinal cord and would never walk again.
When I re-entered the world as a paraplegic 3 months later, I couldn’t have known my true hero’s journey was only beginning.
Everything I had built unraveled. My marriage ended. My company shut down. My parents died. My body, family, security, dreams, and identity all dissolved. The depth of pain, fear, guilt, anger, and loss I experienced was beyond anything I had known.
Before my injury, I had excelled in business development and entrepreneurship—refining skills in logic, strategy, and pragmatism. But the next phase of my evolution required an entirely different set of skills that activated the deepest part of my being.
I traded strategy for spirituality, consulting for contemplation, and ideation for enlightenment. I awakened a dormant part of myself to become a holistic human—powered by the soul, led by the heart, and implemented by the mind.
I learned to alchemize fear into fuel, pain into purpose, and to create the world I desired from the inside out, regardless of my circumstances.
I could no longer move my legs, but the process helped me become Unparalyzed—no longer a victim of a world happening to me, but an instrument of a world being created through me.
The challenges I faced were not punishments or accidents—they were training.
I’ve logged far more than the requisite 10,000 hours of Earth School. Now, more than anything, I want to make it all worth it. And the only way I know how is to be of service.
